Job Purpose

The Vice Chancellor (VC) is the chief academic and executive officer of the university and is responsible for providing visionary leadership, strategic direction, and overall management of the institution. Reporting to the Board of Directors, the VC ensures academic excellence, financial sustainability, operational effectiveness, and institutional growth while upholding the university’s mission, values, and strategic objectives.

As the principal leader, the VC oversees all academic, administrative, and operational functions of the university, fostering a culture of innovation, quality, accountability, and student success.

1. Academic Leadership

  • Provide overall leadership for academic planning, curriculum development, and program delivery.

  • Ensure the highest standards of academic quality, accreditation, and regulatory compliance.

  • Promote excellence in teaching, learning, and research across all faculties.

  • Encourage interdisciplinary collaboration, innovation in pedagogy, and research advancement.

2. Strategic and Executive Leadership

  • Lead the development and implementation of the university’s strategic plan in collaboration with the Board of Directors.

  • Provide strategic advice and regular performance reports to the Board.

  • Oversee institutional performance, risk management, and organizational effectiveness.

  • Drive change management and continuous improvement initiatives across the university.

3. Research and Innovation

  • Provide strategic leadership to build a strong and sustainable research culture.

  • Support research funding, grants, partnerships, and international collaboration.

  • Promote innovation, knowledge transfer, and commercialization initiatives.

  • Strengthen engagement with industry, government, and global research networks.

4. Student Experience and Success

  • Ensure a high-quality, inclusive, and supportive student experience.

  • Oversee student services, academic support, well-being initiatives, and campus life.

  • Promote student engagement, retention, and success outcomes.

  • Ensure effective systems for addressing student feedback, complaints, and grievances.

5. Governance and Compliance

  • Ensure compliance with all academic, regulatory, and statutory requirements.

  • Serve as a key advisor to the Board on governance, academic, and operational matters.

  • Oversee institutional policies, internal audits, and quality assurance processes.

  • Represent the university in governing councils, committees, and official bodies.

6. External Engagement and Representation

  • Act as the principal ambassador and public representative of the university.

  • Build and maintain strategic partnerships with educational institutions, industry, government, and community stakeholders.

  • Lead reputation-building, branding, and external relations initiatives.

7. Leadership and People Development

  • Provide inspirational leadership to senior management, academic leaders, and staff.

  • Foster a culture of excellence, collaboration, integrity, and accountability.

  • Support talent development, leadership succession, and workforce planning.

Job Requirements

Qualifications

  • Doctoral degree (PhD or equivalent) from a recognized institution in a relevant academic discipline.

  • Extensive senior academic and executive leadership experience within higher education.

  • Distinguished record of scholarly achievement, research, and publication.

Experience

  • Minimum of 15 years in higher education, with significant experience in senior executive leadership roles.

  • Proven experience in strategic leadership, academic governance, and institutional development.

  • Demonstrated success in managing complex organizations and leading large-scale change initiatives.
